NYAA Recreation Entries 3 (Soccer)

Sunday, November 21, 2010

Date: 8th October 2010
Duration: 2.5 hours

Today, we started off by practicing our passes, which served as a warm up. Most of us were inaccurate in passing and would often end up passing to the wrong person. However, after several tries, we improved in our passing. From there, we moved on to play a soccer match in the field. The game had ended with a score of 2-1. Then, the game was interrupted by heavy downpour. Everyone proceeded to the indoor sports hall, where we continued the game. Throughout the game, there were few injuries but the rest of the game continued smoothly. The match finally ended with a score of 5-3.

Date: 15th October 2010
Duration: 2.5 hours

Today, we started with our practice of dribbling in the field. Everyone was given a chance to practice their dribbling skills. Then, we went on to play 2 soccer matches. Everyone was actively involved in the game. Both teams focused more on passing rather than shooting as we wanted to develop teamwork amongst the teammates, as well as to further improve in our passing accuracy. The game came to a halt with a final score of 5-3. After the first game, the teams were reselected. This time, the match was more exhausting as it was longer and required more running. Fortunately, there were no injuries this week. The game ended with a final score of 5-4.

Date: 22nd October 2010
Duration: 2.5 hours

Today, we went straight into the soccer match. By now, most of us had improved in our playing and are able to dribble the ball without much trouble. As usual, we played 2 soccer games. Most of us had performed quite well in terms of our passing and dribbling. Our overall passing accuracy had been much better as compared to our first soccer session, and our teamwork had significantly improved. That was shown through our communication with teammates on the pitch. The 2 soccer matches ended with scores of 5-3 and 7-2 respectively.

Date: 29th October 2010
Duration: 2.5 hours

Today, we practiced our crossing skills as we were rather weak in this segment. At the beginning, most of us could not cross properly and our passes were often off target. Despite all this, we were more motivated to master the way to deliver a proper cross. After several tries, we finally grasped the way to deliver a proper cross. Then, we decided to further improve on our crossing in the match itself. The first game ended with a score of 4-4. We then proceeded on to our second game, which ended with a score of 3-1. By the end of this soccer session, we had improved in our crossing.

Date: 6th November 2010
Duration: 2.5 hours

Today, we started with a practice on penalty kicks. Everyone took turns to become goal keepers and the penalty taker. The aim of being a penalty taker was to to improve on our accuracy, whereas being a goalkeeper would train us to be confident in ourselves. Soon, most of us were quite good in our penalty kicks and we proceeded to our usual routine of soccer matches. The first game ended with a score of 3-3, while the second game ended with 4-2.

Date: 12th November 2010
Duration: 2.5 hours

Today, we began with a practice of free kicks. Everyone took turns to take a free kick and then switched role to become goalkeeper. Taking a free kick is a difficult feat which requires much practice. Despite all the practices, not everyone was able to take a free kick successfully. However, as a whole, we managed to finish our practice of free kicks. Thereafter, we proceeded on to the soccer matches. By now, we had practiced most of the stuff required in soccer. Throughout the 2 soccer matches, everyone was actively involved and were quite confident in their own playing. The soccer matches ended with the scores of 5-4 and 5-3 respectively.

Date: 19th November 2010
Duration: 2.5 hours

Today, we had our second last NYAA soccer session. We wasted no time in splitting ourselves into 2 teams. Before long, we were already playing. Over the past few weeks of soccer, we have improved our skills. We were more agile, more accurate and more bonded after all these soccer sessions. Many goals were scored in a short period of time. However the losing team did not feel discouraged and instead encouraged each other to try harder. In the end, their effort paid off as they scored many goals in the second half and emerged victorious. Their never-say-die spirit is very admirable and we should all learn from them.

Date: 26th November 2010
Duration: 2.5 hours

We had our last session of soccer today. We were split into groups again within our squad, and had a ball of a time. After this whole NYAA soccer session, we had a few takeaways.Playing a game we liked together as a squad, we managed to bond more, and enjoy the process as well. Instead of bonding over strenuous activities like drills, we got to sweat it out in the field and bond together, over a ball. Also, we learnt that teamwork was very important in everything we do, as a squad. Despite different playing styles on the field, we managed to get the ball into the goals, scoring for our teams. This is alike to working together as a squad to plan trainings and such. We all have different working styles, and have to learn to compromise and complement each other such that we will achieve our goals in the end.

NYAA Entries Format

Saturday, January 17, 2009

Right now, just copy down the skills, adventurous journey and physical recreation entries. Don't start writing service entries for there will be unforeseen changes to the entries. Just copy down the other entries way you did for bronze but take note of the changes of the format for physical recreation.

The following shows what I will be writing for physical recreation.

Week 1:

Date: 22/8/2008

Today, we started off by playing a simple passing game called "1-touch". Everyone had to use only 1 touch to pass the ball to another person, this would continue on until someone fails to do so and the game restarts agin. The main objective of this is to train everybody's passing skills. Then we proceeded on to "monkey". In this game everyone would stand in a circle and there would be 1 "monkey" in the middle. The people on the outside have to try and pass the ball to one another continuously and the "monkey" would have to try and intercept the ball. When this happens, the last person would be the "monkey". Lastly, we had a soccer match and the final score was 2-0.

Date: 28/8/2008

We started off by playing a very simple game of passing among everybody to warm up. Then we proceedded on to our usual game of "monkey". Before the match. we then had another game of shooting at the goal. Then we had a match which resulted in a final score of 6-1.

Week 2:

Date: 5/9/2008

The match started first today and the score was 7-2. Our friends who left for IP also came back and joined us for this match. Then we proceeded on to shooting at the goal. Then we had another short match and the score was 2-2.

Week 3:

Date: 12/9/2008

Today we started off by having a match and the score was 7-1. Then to cool down, we practised passing among ourselves in a circle.

Week 4

Date: 17/10/2008

Having mastered our passing skills already, we then carried on with crossing. For a start, we practiced crossing the ball to our partner at a distance away from us. We did very well for first timers at this activities. Then we had a match after our exams and the score was 4-1.

Date: 23/10/2008

We started off by playing a match first, and when the scores was tied at 1-1, a heavy downpour occured causing us to stop our game half-way through.

Week 5

Date: 31/10/2008

Since there was less people today, we had to practice our crossing techniques today with less partners. Today, our main practice point was that we started to try and take corners, even though we were not so good, we kept practising then we proceeded on to a match and the score was 3-1.

Week 6

Date: 7/11/2008

With everyone present today, the practice for corner taking continued and we improved on our accuracy and tactics to ensure a higher chance to score goals. There was a significant improvement from the last time. The match ended with a score of 4-0.

Week 7

Date: 11/11/2008

Today, we started on a new section of soccer known as free kicks. Each person took turns to take free kicks at different areas of the field and for different purposes such as for crossing or shots. After practicing for a while, our accuracy improved and we could generate more power. Our match at the end had a score of 11-3.

Date: 14/11/2008

Today, we started off by taking penalty kicks. Then we played a full match with our sec2 juniors and we beat them by a score of 2-1. This was an evident improvement as we had never won them before.

Week 8

Date: 20/11/2008

Due to a shortage of time, we could only practice penalty kicks using different styles and each person was given an opportunity to be a goalkeeper and learn the various skills required.

Week 9

Date: 28/11/2008

Today, we started on a new skill of soccer known as intercepting. At first, everyone could not seem to be able to control their tackles, but slowly after practice, everyone got better and could intercept quite accurately by tackling. Then we played a match and it ended with a score of 1-1.

Week 10

Date: 2/12/2008

Today, we practiced the art of sliding in soccer. As it was a new and hard skill to master, we started off firstly by practicing tackling a stationary guy and by aiming the ball not the legs of the person. After that, we played a match and the score was 5-1.

Date: 5/12/2008

Today we continued off from where we left off last week on sliding. Today we went to the next level of sliding which involved sliding a moving target. This was very good practice also as it trained our stamina to chase the guy down. Even though there were a few mistimed tackles but there were no injuries and we improved steadily. We then played a match and the score was 6-2.

Follow this format to ensure a higher chance of getting silver.

NYAA Physical Recreation Reminder

Saturday, November 29, 2008

Deadline for soccer is 5 Dec which is just less than a week away. For those that do not have enough soccer hours, there will be one more soccer session next week. If you were to check previous posts, I did mentioned that there will be 2 more sessions apart from the original one on Friday. However, this has changed as this week is a rather busy week due to service. Thus, we cannot afford to have 3 soccer sessions in one week.

The extra soccer session will most probably be held on a Tuesday or a Wednesday as we have service on Monday and Thursday and a soccer session on Friday. Details will be confirmed later.

That extra soccer session is our last attempt to help you fulfill the requirements of 'NYAA Silver Physical Recreation'. For those of you who do not have enough soccer hours, do write down your own entries of your own soccer games. But if you do not even play soccer outside NPCC training times, I suggest you might as well shout on tagboard and declare yourself as NYAA Silver failure.

Speaking of that, if you know anybody that is going to fail NYAA Silver because of not having enough physical recreation hours, do tell them about what I mentioned earlier regarding declaring himself as failure. I got a feeling that there is this certain someone in our squad that fits this category very well and he has a personal message on MSN that says, "Rank is what you wear, respect is what you earn. But it seems like some people just don't get it.' Alright, if you want to prove to your dear squad that you earn the respect of us, jolly well do what I told you to and I will admire your courage for admitting your own mistakes, failure, foolishness and ultimately your stupidity. If not, prove me wrong by getting the necessary hours of soccer needed by Dec 5 alone with a ball and those trotters of yours.

Enough said. I guess the message is clear. Chopping board shall be updated on Dec 5.

To the person I am talking about, your 'head' shall be chopped if you do not have enough hours.

NYAA Soccer

Currently, 81.25% of us will be done with our physical recreation component of NYAA Silver with two more soccer sessions which will be held next Friday (28/11) and the week after (5/12).

As for the remaining 18.75%, one of them is not able to complete the adventurous journey component. Thus, he is defined as gone case and he will definitely not get NYAA Silver. As for the remaining two, they will need more than 2 soccer sesions to complete silver.

This is what I have in mind. We will have two additional soccer sessions on 1/12 (Monday) and 3/12 (Wednesday). Timing will be decided later on. We can also use these days to plan out future out activities, trainings, UTC, Challenge Unlimited, etc. So, HOP and HOT please take charge. =P

Aloysius and Wei Xiang, do come these soccer sessions. Don't waste the $12 you choose to spend on NYAA and our efforts to save you one last time. Don't attend these sessions or leave half way during the game and thats the end of you.
